About The Position

The primary function of a Lead HIM Technician is quality control for the accuracy of the scanned Medical Record. The Lead HIM Technician works as part of a team to ensure that all scanned documents pertaining to the chart are legible, exact replicas of the original, and patient identification is met with each record. This role is responsible for interacting with hospital staff regarding medical records documentation, ensuring it is assembled with the appropriate document type according to the forms inventory. The HIM Lead Technician will also maintain the accuracy of the medical record according to department policy and JC/regulatory standards. This role is responsible and accountable for maintaining death and discharge logs. The Lead HIM Technician conducts patient chart audits relating to documentation in the patient’s medical record. Upon notification, and after research, corrects demographic or identifies duplicate medical record/fin numbers in the Master Patient Index database and Electronic Health Record. The Lead HIM Technician will also provide assistance with birth registry and be included in the weekend rotation for birth registry coverage.

  • Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
  • A valid Texas Driver’s License; safe driving skills; the ability to safely operate company vehicles.
  • High School diploma, GED, or Higher Education required.
  • Must obtain AOP Certification within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years experience of Medical records or healthcare related field.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of computers, copy machine, microfilm and reader printer.
  • Flexible to travel other facilities.
  • Associate degree in (HIM or Healthcare related field) or Certificate.
