Lead Hardware Design Engineer
About The Position
This role involves independent hardware design and development, including component evaluation, RF/analog/digital design and simulation, PCB layout, and verification testing. The engineer will develop hardware for transceiver modules, document digital control requirements for firmware designers, and coordinate hardware development with various teams. The position requires staying familiar with industry standards and customer requirements, evaluating future needs, and defining hardware architecture. Training and support of Coherent personnel, as well as technical support for critical customers, are also part of the responsibilities.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent field.
- 5+ years of experience in the applicable engineering field.
- Proficient in PADs software tools.
- Experience in analog / digital design and simulation.
- Experience in PCB layout.
- Must be hard-working with good communication skills.
- Must be able to work both independently, as well as part of a team.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Optical Components a plus.
- Experience with modulator bias loop design and implementation a plus.
- Experience with CST 3D RF simulation software a plus.
- Experience with Agile software a plus.
Responsibilities
- Work independently on hardware design and development tasks.
- Evaluate optical / RF components.
- Perform RF Design / Analog & Digital Design and Simulation.
- Design PCB Layout.
- Conduct Verification Testing and Troubleshooting.
- Develop hardware for transceiver modules as schedules and target dates require.
- Document digital control requirements of the module for use by the firmware designers.
- Coordinate hardware development with firmware, manufacturing, test and other groups.
- Be familiar with industry standards and customer requirements.
- Evaluate future requirements and define/develop the needed hardware architecture to meet these requirements.
- Perform training and support of Coherent personnel in field of expertise.
- Interact with critical customers to provide technical support, as needed.
