About The Position

Provides leadership for campus grounds operations by daily activities, maintaining the University's exterior assets, coordinating seasonal operations, and ensuring exceptional service quality. This role involves overseeing mowing, pruning, mulching, irrigation, seasonal plantings, and exterior beautification, as well as directing snow removal and de-icing operations. The Lead Groundskeeper also coordinates event setups and oversees contractor performance and quality, while maintaining equipment and promoting safe work practices.

Requirements

High School education or equivalency.
At least one year of landscape and/or grounds industry experience.
Knowledge of basic horticulture, landscape & hardscape maintenance and installation techniques, snow removal & deicing techniques, and athletic field maintenance.
Motor vehicle operator’s license.
Knowledge of safety practices associated with the operation of all equipment.
Current Pesticide Applicators License, Categories 6A, 6C & Core and knowledge of basic pesticides used in Grounds Management.
Ability to perform tasks in low, high, and tight spaces such as, on the ground, trees, and roofs.
Ability to use equipment such as ladders and aerial lifts to reach high places such as roofs and trees.
Ability to handle prolonged exposure to dirt, dust, grease, pesticides, petroleum products, and other chemicals.
Ability to handle prolonged exposure to climatic weather conditions – hot and cold outside temperatures.
Ability to handle prolonged exposure to equipment with moving parts and loud noise.
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. (50 lbs. on a regular basis), carry, reach, sit, write, climb, hear, pull, read, stand, drive, kneel, push, see, stoop, and walk.
Ability to compare, evaluate, interpret, organize, analyze, decide, inspect, measure, plan, work independently, calculate, diagnose, instruct, negotiate, and problem solve.
Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to work without supervision and demonstrate considerable initiative.
Maintain a safe, clean, professional campus environment.
Respond promptly to service requests.
Follow OSHA and university safety requirements.
Communicate effectively with Facilities Management.
Operate equipment safely.
Deliver consistently high-quality grounds maintenance.

Responsibilities

Maintain equipment, enforce PPE usage, and promote safe work practices.
