Lead FPGA Embedded Engineer

Honeywell Aerospace•San Diego, CA
•$157,000 - $197,000

About The Position

Honeywell Aerospace is seeking an experienced Lead Embedded Digital Engineer for new product development and product improvement projects at its San Diego location. The role works with customers and a multidisciplinary team, shaping technical approaches and increasing the digital footprint of aerospace products. The engineer owns digital architecture for a phased radar or Electronic Warfare application and drives its design from concept through production. The role also leads and mentors junior engineers. Responsibilities include architecting, simulating, designing, implementing, integrating, and supporting digital functions and subsystems; analyzing requirements and evaluating implementation trade-offs; developing digital and firmware designs; and translating specifications into circuit designs involving microcontrollers, FPGAs, memory, converters, sensors, and power regulators. The engineer oversees circuit-card design, partitions FPGA architectures, develops and simulates VHDL firmware, applies algorithms to RF electronics subsystems, leads testing and integration, interfaces with RF subsystems or motion-controlled positioner assemblies, and produces design and verification documentation. The role requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, at least seven years of engineering experience in high-tech R&D or manufacturing, electronic product design and development experience, experience across circuit-card development from inception through production, and at least five years using FPGA development tools such as Altera Quartus or Xilinx Vivado. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance are required. The stated annual base salary range is $157,000–$197,000.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • At least 7 years of engineering experience in high-tech R&D and/or manufacturing companies.
  • Work experience in electronic product design and development.
  • Experience with all phases of circuit-card development from inception through production, including architecture, schematics, layout, debug, and documentation, and experience with FPGA applications.
  • At least 5 years of job experience using Altera Quartus, Xilinx Vivado, or similar FPGA development tools.
  • Experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and other aspects of electrical engineering.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance in accordance with 32 CFR Part 117 (NISPOM).

Nice To Haves
