About The Position

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the efficient maintenance and repair of the City's diverse fleets from automobiles and public works equipment to police and fire vehicles and specialized equipment. The role involves keeping critical City operations moving by performing skilled maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment. It also includes coordinating daily activities and workflow on the fleet shop floor, communicating with department staff liaisons to understand needs and prioritize repairs, and scheduling and assigning repair and maintenance work to Fleet Technicians. The Lead Fleet Technician will direct technicians to emergency calls and coordinate timely responses, ensure vehicles and equipment are repaired efficiently and returned to service quickly, and perform related administrative duties, record keeping, and coordination activities. Additionally, the role involves providing technical guidance and instruction to fleet technicians and serving as acting division manager when assigned and when operational needs require.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in fleet maintenance.
  • Formal training in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment.
  • Strong fundamental math skills.
  • Able to work effectively with coworkers, department representatives, vendors, and the public.
  • On-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, reporting no later than 60 minutes of the call-in.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License or acquire within six months of hire (in-house training available).
  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions and lift to 87 pounds.
