About The Position

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. This position supports the fire-prevention program to reduce or eliminate fire dangers for local employees working within the Command. It involves responding on site to accidents and other emergencies involving injuries and illnesses, as well as incidents involving hazardous materials. The role serves as the Lead Firefighter directing the operation of one major piece of firefighting apparatus and an ambulance crew. Additionally, the position requires responding to local airfields for crash rescue emergencies.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs, including pre-employment screening, random testing, testing based on reasonable suspicion, and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Use of personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Wearing the prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
  • Successful completion of an annual Job Performance Test.
  • Up to 5% of business travel.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
  • An appropriate, valid state and government driver's license is required.
  • US Citizens
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) responding to medical emergencies; (3) detecting, reducing, or eliminating of potential fire hazards; (4) operating fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents.
  • Firefighter I & II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Officer I, Driver Operator Pumper, and Hazardous Material Technician certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.
  • Emergency Medical Technician, EMT-Basic certification (or higher) from the state of GA or National Registry of Emergency Technicians Card indicating a future expiration date.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • A 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Government issued document indicating your date of birth.

Responsibilities

  • Support the fire-prevention program to reduce or eliminate fire dangers for local employees working within the Command.

  • Complete additional Rescue Technician I (DoD, IFSAC or Pro-board Certifications) within one year from date of employment as condition of employment.
