About The Position

Lead Firearms Instructors (LFIs) serve as the primary point of contact for Federal Flight Deck Officers (FFDO) at training venues. They are responsible for checking in FFDOs, verifying weapons and credentials, conducting classroom instruction, delivering approved TSA training and safety briefs, introducing new equipment, and ensuring all students understand and sign the safety briefing. LFIs oversee the course of fire at the gun-range, ensuring the safety of all personnel and maintaining an instructor/student ratio of 1:6. They manage training supplies, maintain positive control of the training environment, ensure proper scoring, complete administrative forms, collect training data, and certify qualification scores. In cases of FFDO failure to qualify, LFIs are responsible for taking custody of weapons, transport devices, credentials, and other equipment for return to TSA/FAMS, making immediate verbal notification to the FFDO Program Office if a FAMS representative is not present. LFIs must also secure Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) in compliance with TSA policies and oversee timekeeping for SFI labor hours, while complying with internal compliance training events.
