About The Position

Lead Firearms Instructors (LFIs) are the first point of contact for Federal Flight Deck Officers when they arrive at the training venue. They are responsible for checking them in, verifying weapons and credentials, conducting training, and overseeing the course of fire at the gun range. LFIs are responsible for ensuring the safety of all personnel on the range and securing Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) during and after requalification sessions. The LFI acts as the on-site training manager for the program, conducting all classroom instruction, delivering approved TSA training and safety briefs, introducing and describing new equipment, and ensuring all students understand and sign the safety briefing. They must ensure a minimum number of Security Firearms Instructors (SFIs) are present to maintain an instructor/student ratio of 1:6 for each training session and ensure a sufficient inventory of training supplies is on-hand to support monthly requalification sessions. The LFI is expected to maintain positive control of the training environment from student arrival to departure. Upon arrival, LFIs must visually inspect and verify the weapons and credentials of each Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) before training commences. The LFI is responsible for ensuring proper scoring of targets, completion of applicable administrative forms, and collection of training data. The LFI is required to sign and certify qualification scores for all FFDOs attempting to qualify. If an FFDO fails to qualify, the LFI, or an authorized FAMS Representative, takes custody of the unloaded weapon, transport device (lockbox), credential, and other equipment for return to TSA/FAMS. If no authorized FAMS representative is present, the LFI must immediately notify the FFDO Program Office to make arrangements for the return of equipment and credentials. The LFI must keep all SSI and SPII secured appropriately in compliance with TSA policies. The LFI oversees timekeeping of all SFI labor hours and must comply with internal compliance training events.

Requirements

5+ years of related experience
Current or former federal law enforcement agent, officer, or civilian employee having completed a recognized federal firearm instructor training program deemed acceptable by the TSA/FAMS (e.g., FLETC Firearms Instructor Training program (FITP), FAMS Firearms Instructor Training Program, FBI/DEA Firearms Instructor Training Program, United States Postal Inspectors Firearms Instructor Training Program or equivalent federal training program).
Successfully complete a 2-3 days firearms re-qualification training program under the technical direction of the SAC, FAMS Training Division, and the FFDO Program Office.
Areas of instruction include re-qualification course(s) of fire, procedural requirements for conducting the re-qualification session, use of a GFE Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), and basic first aid.
5 years of firearms training experience.
Associate's Degree, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work/military experience.
Successfully complete the security application and pass a background investigation clearance prior to starting.
Must be able to be on camera during virtual interviews.

Responsibilities
