Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • This position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 and PHMSA regulations (Part 199).
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and skills to perform gas and electric service type of work.
  • Ability to become qualified and retain qualifications in all required Operator Qualification (OQ) tasks.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job and neat appearance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all the duties of a field technician.
  • Schedule, supervise and participate in work performed by field technicians and other employees assigned to customer care related work.
  • Assist the salaried supervisor and make recommendations regarding hiring, promotion and development of employees supervised by the Lead Field Technician position.
  • Assist the salaried supervisor in planning and budgeting.
  • Requisition and maintain an adequate and accurate level of utility-related equipment and related material.
  • Check electric and gas service installations for compliance with WP&L service rules and applicable codes.
  • Investigate and correct (when possible) customers' electric and gas service problems and/or advise customer of corrections needed.
  • Repair gas leaks on the company’s side of the meter including threaded connections above ground and below ground.
  • May wrap service risers and pipe.
  • Relight gas pilots.
  • Install gas piping, including cutting and threading of pipe of the company’s and customer’s side of the meter.
  • Assist employees in analyzing and correct gas and electric equipment problems.
  • Train customer care employees and others assigned to customer care work.
  • Assure that work performed conforms to established procedures, practices and safety rules.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as required.
  • Perform other duties which are related, similar or incidental to this position.
