Lead F-18 General Mechanic
About The Position
Boeing Global Services (BGS) is seeking an F-18 General Mechanic Lead willing to be on 1st or 2nd shift at Naval Air Station (NAS) Joint Reserve Base (JRB) New Orleans in Belle Chase, Louisiana. This role involves leading the assembly, disassembly, and modification of systems by overseeing the change, removal, replacement, or upgrade of aerospace vehicle components. The Lead Mechanic will also direct troubleshooting of complex pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems, oversee validation/verification testing, document procedures for compliance, and inspect components for flight worthiness. Additionally, they will lead and supervise others in handling aerospace vehicles, provide training, and work under minimal direction. The General Mechanic responsibilities include performing various aircraft inspections, maintenance tasks, and operational checks, as well as managing aircraft records and inventory.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in military fighter aircraft maintenance
- Minimum of 3 years leading a team (including managing team assignment, tracking status, and developing a team’s talent)
- Experience as a military plane captain
- Willing to work variable shifts; including days, evenings, nights and weekends
- Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds or more during a shift
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in reading and interpreting technical publications and/or maintenance manuals
- Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim U.S. Secret Clearance Pre-Start and final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Responsibilities
- Lead the assembly, disassembly and modification of systems by overseeing the change, removal, replacement or upgrade of aerospace vehicle components to correct failures or implement changes
- Oversee assembly, disassembly or overhaul
- Configure aerospace vehicles and bench test equipment
- Direct troubleshooting of complex pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems to isolate mechanical or electrical faults and repair faulty components
- Oversee validation/verification testing of systems and components
- Document procedures and established processes to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance (e.g., repairs, test results, applicable modifications and inspection results)
- Inspect components and verify repairs for flight worthiness requirements
- Lead and supervise others to perform tasks associated with the safe handling of an aerospace vehicle (e.g. jacking, towing, system operations)
- Provide training and mentors others
- Perform end-of-runway, postflight, preflight, through-flight, and phase inspections
- Perform coordinated combat turns and hot pit refuels
- Advise on problems maintaining, servicing, and inspecting aircraft and related aerospace equipment
- Use technical data to diagnose and address maintenance problems on aircraft systems
- Interpret and advise on maintenance procedures and policies to repair aircraft and related equipment
- Solve problems and maintain aircraft structures, systems, components, and related equipment
- Remove and install aircraft components
- Conduct functional tests of repaired components and systems
- Adjust, align, and rig aircraft systems
- Supervise and perform aircraft jacking, lifting, and towing operations
- Perform aircraft and component operational checks
- Interpret inspection findings and resolve adequacy of corrective actions
- Inspect and check components for clearances, tolerances, proper installation, and operation
- Inspect and operate powered and non-powered aerospace ground equipment
- Inspect and identify aircraft corrosion for prevention and repair
- Review maintenance forms, aircraft records, automated maintenance data systems, and historical reports to ensure complete documentation
