About The Position

The Lead Engineer will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Generating Station Distributed Control Systems (DCS), providing technical support for operations, maintenance, and projects across multiple generation technologies and geographic regions. This specialist-level engineering role solves complex problems, manages work, and provides leadership and guidance to others with minimal supervision and increased latitude for unreviewed work. The Lead Engineer is expected to have advanced skills and work independently. The DCS SME supports control systems at coal, natural gas, solar, and bulk energy storage generation facilities. The role works with plant operations and maintenance personnel on equipment troubleshooting, coordinates communications with external DCS Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) support groups, and coordinates fleet-level guidance with internal station and regional DCS support personnel. The SME owns fleet-level standards, practices, and procedures. The position supports generation facilities across Duke Energy’s operating regions. After onboarding, work is performed from remote and onsite locations. Employees must live within a reasonable commute—no greater than 50 miles one way—to their designated Duke Energy facility and are expected to report there as required by their manager, averaging three full workdays per regular workweek. Routine travel within the home region is approximately 15–25%, with occasional travel to other regions of 5–10%. Relocation assistance may be provided, as applicable. The position is not represented by a union and does not offer visa sponsorship; candidates must be able to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
