About The Position

Duke Energy is seeking a Lead Engineer to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Generating Station Distributed Control Systems (DCS). This role provides technical support for operations, maintenance, and projects across multiple generation technologies and geographic regions. The Lead Engineer is a specialist who solves complex problems, manages work, and provides leadership in their area of expertise with minimal supervision. They are expected to have advanced skills and work independently, guiding others. The DCS SME will support control systems at coal, natural gas, solar, and bulk energy storage generation facilities, working with plant personnel for troubleshooting and coordinating with external DCS Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) support groups. This role also involves communicating fleet-level guidance to internal station and regional DCS support personnel and acting as the owner of fleet-level standards, practices, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program and PE.
  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience.
  • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.

  • Experience with design, construction, commissioning, and/or process engineering support for generation facilities.
  • Experience with utility industry process control and automation equipment.
  • Experience with specific DCS manufacturers' equipment: Emerson Ovation, Siemens T3000, GE Mark VIe.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for operations, maintenance, and projects for multiple generation technologies across multiple geographic regions.
  • Provide technical support for control systems at coal, natural gas, solar and bulk energy storage generation facilities.
  • Work with plant operations and maintenance personnel to support equipment troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate communication with external DCS Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) support groups.
  • Coordinate communication of fleet level guidance to internal station and regional DCS support personnel.
  • Act as owner of fleet level standards, practices, and procedures.
