About The Position

LaBella is seeking a Lead Engineer - Transmission Lines for its client’s office in Binghamton, New York. The position follows a hybrid schedule and is part of LaBella’s Program Management Services Division, which provides management services for complex projects and multi-year capital programs, including business consulting, project management, financial control and monitoring, administrative support, and technical support. The salary range is $100,000–$140,000; the specific offer may depend on factors including relevant experience, education, and work location. The Lead Engineer will lead transmission line design for capital projects and guide routing and design strategies. The work includes conductor selection; structure recommendations; insulation, A/C interference, static wire, and grounding studies; line design drawings and details; use of LiDAR, aerial photography, and environmental resource data; and preparation of estimates and probability models. The engineer will review and design transmission line plan and profile drawings using PLS-CADD to ensure compliance with AVANGRID technical manuals, NESC, and other applicable standards.

Requirements

5–10 years of engineering experience in the functional area.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology.
Professional Engineer (PE) requested.

Responsibilities

Select conductors and recommend structures.
Perform studies related to insulation, A/C interference, static wire, and grounding.
Develop line designs, including plans and profiles and cross-section details.
Use LiDAR and aerial photo data in design work.
Use wetlands, vernal pool, and sensitive-resource data in line and structure design and placement.
Prepare detailed estimates and probability modeling, and perform other studies as required to complete projects.
Lead overall transmission line design for capital projects.
Review and design transmission line plan and profile drawings using PLS-CADD to ensure compliance with AVANGRID technical manual standards, NESC, and other standards.
Drive transmission line project plans, routing, and strategy, including deciding whether to rebuild existing lines or obtain additional right of way based on congestion and local political or permitting issues.
Determine required structure designs based on design constraints.
Determine routing in and around congested stations to optimize design and reliability and minimize crossings.
