About The Position

Eversource is seeking a Lead Engineer for Strategic Projects to join their Distribution Engineering Team. This leadership role is responsible for the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives. The position uniquely blends engineering leadership and project management, focusing on major projects within Distribution Engineering for Eastern MA North. The role is based in Dorchester, MA and offers a hybrid schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in any Engineering discipline or B.S. in Engineering Technology
  • 8+ years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Demonstrated front-line leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate up, down, and sideways
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention-to-detail
  • Proficient in communicating to leadership
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary
  • Must be able to work for up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

Responsibilities

  • Take charge of major projects, leading their execution and delivery to achieve key milestones on or ahead of schedule.
  • Maintain ongoing collaboration and communication with peers, leadership, and employees throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Guide peers, internal and external to Distribution Engineering, to ensure all necessary engineering work for major projects is completed promptly and within budget, meeting financial compliance requirements.
  • Actively engage with all department teams to collect periodic status updates and relay them to leadership.
  • Identify project roadblocks early and engage relevant stakeholders to facilitate their removal.
  • Oversee project delivery by coordinating with their team and remaining accountable for team performance.
  • Hold teams accountable for completing projects punctually and maintaining excellent standards of quality.
  • Build a capable technical team, oversee their performance, and conduct reviews.
  • Assign priorities and guide work for at least two full-time engineers or one engineer and one designer.
  • Ensure designs, specifications, modifications, and replacements for transmission and distribution systems related to major projects are prepared accurately and delivered on time.
  • Prepare initial engineering designs and detailed plans when needed.
  • Offer technical guidance to operating areas on system priorities, engineering principles, and operational choices.
  • Conduct root-cause analyses, devise corrective actions, and implement solutions.
  • Evaluate and select technologies and equipment for the system.
  • Develop standards and procedures for design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Step in as Manager when required.
  • Respond to emergency situations as part of an Emergency Restoration assignment.
