About The Position

Eversource is seeking a Lead Engineer for Strategic Projects to join their Distribution Engineering Team. This leadership role focuses on the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives. The position uniquely blends engineering leadership and project management, with a focus on major projects within Distribution Engineering for Eastern MA North. The role is based in Dorchester, MA, and involves leading the execution and delivery of major projects, maintaining collaboration and communication with peers, leadership, and employees, and guiding peers and union employees to ensure timely and within-budget completion of engineering work for major projects. The Lead Engineer will also be responsible for collecting status updates, identifying project roadblocks, and facilitating their removal, holding accountability for team performance and project delivery, and maintaining excellent standards of quality.

Requirements

Demonstrated front-line leadership.

Proficient in communicating to leadership.
Requires a Bachelor of Science in any Engineering discipline or B.S. in Engineering Technology.
8+ years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
Supervisory experience required.
Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
Must be able to work for up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

Nice To Haves

Experience leading covered employees preferred.
Electrical Engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

Builds a capable technical team, oversees their performance, and conducts reviews.
Assigns priorities, and guides work for at least two full-time engineers or one engineer and one designer.
Ensures designs, specifications, modifications, and replacements for transmission and distribution systems related to major projects such as ESMP, Reliability, Capacity, Strategy — as well as necessary permits and customer notifications — are prepared accurately and delivered on time.
Prepares initial engineering designs and detailed plans when needed.
Offers technical guidance to operating areas on system priorities, engineering principles, and operational choices during both routine and emergency conditions.
Conducts root-cause analyses, devises corrective actions, and implements solutions.
Evaluates and selects technologies and equipment for the system.
Develops standards and procedures for design, operation, and maintenance.
Steps in as Manager when required.
Takes charge of major projects, leading their execution and delivery.
Maintains ongoing collaboration and communication with peers, leadership, and employees throughout the project lifecycle.
Guides peers, internal and external to Distribution Engineering, to ensure all necessary engineering work for major projects is completed promptly and within budget, meeting financial compliance requirements.
Actively engages with all department teams to collect periodic status updates and relay them to leadership.
Early identification of project roadblocks and engaging relevant stakeholders to facilitate their removal.
Oversees project delivery by coordinating with their team and remaining accountable for team performance.
Holds their teams accountable for completing projects punctually and maintaining excellent standards of quality throughout the process.
