About The Position

Eversource is seeking a Lead Engineer for their Project Solutions team within the Business and Quality Assurance organization. This role supports all aspects of the Eversource project lifecycle process for electric transmission and distribution, aiming to improve system reliability for customers. The Lead Engineer will lead a diverse department team and share accountability with peers in the strategy, development, and design of the organization’s Life Cycle Plan. Responsibilities include supervising the review of proposed projects such as infrastructure upgrades to substations, underground transmission, and overhead transmission systems. These upgrades can encompass major substation equipment, protection and controls, SCADA and communication, various cable types, overhead transmission structures, civil and environmental construction, and QA/QC reviews of project scope, cost, and schedule. The role ensures proposed projects have clear and thoroughly documented justification for customer investments.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.
  • Ability to independently develop, present, and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.
  • Familiarity with power-related software is preferred.
  • Substation knowledge is a plus.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead department operations with a focus on resource management, workload management and prioritization, internal customer interaction and support, and assurance of department quality control.
  • Support the overall project lifecycle process across engineering, finance, project management, siting, transmission and distribution operations, system planning, asset management, cost estimating, etc., to maximize efficiency and quality assurance.
  • Support the Eversource Project Approval Committee (EPAC) and the Solution Design Committee (SDC).
  • Identify and implement process improvement initiatives related to project lifecycle, EPAC, and SDC.
  • Support development and maintenance of department tools that manage project authorization through technical and financial approval processes, ensuring timely handoffs and management through Powerplan.
  • Establish, track, review, and report KPIs, coordinating with Project Controls, Engineering, Major Projects, Compliance, Siting, Construction, and Siting Services.
  • Supplement department individual contributor roles as required.
  • Support competency development in the emerging transmission competitive environment as it relates to project solution development.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop engineers; approve time and conduct performance reviews.
  • Assign, prioritize, and direct work performed by Engineers, Reviewers, and Analysts.
  • Oversee the cost and performance of certain system assets, including reliability analysis, trending of system events, and monitoring of equipment condition.
  • Develop, justify, and approve Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and for ongoing projects.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of design and specification for additions, modifications, and replacements to transmission and distribution systems, as well as system electrical permits and customer notifications.
  • Develop preliminary engineering designs and necessary details.
  • Collaborate with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Provide technical support and direction to operating areas regarding system priorities, engineering guidelines, and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
  • Accountable for root-cause analysis, development, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Evaluate and select technology and equipment for the system.
  • Develop standards and procedures for design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Assume the role of the Manager as required.
  • Assist with storm duty and any other major events.
