About The Position

Yondr is seeking a talented and experienced Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) with mechanical systems design/engineering experience to join the DCX (Data Centre Execution) team. This role will provide engineering design expert input to ensure projects comply with design parameters, tenant requirements, and local codes. The ideal candidate will be involved in designing Yondr’s current and future data center products for Hyperscale/Cloud and AI compute markets, focusing on innovation and ensuring compliance with technical standards and specifications. The SME will collaborate with the Global VP Design and Regional Design Directors, potentially managing consulting partners, to deliver innovative and cutting-edge solutions. This role also involves working with project managers, design engineers, consultants, contractors, and commercial teams for successful project delivery and operation globally (AMERS/EMEA). Travel will be required for this global role. The successful candidate will also contribute to various business functions within DCX design, including input to land acquisition, bid phase support, and assisting the construction delivery team through to operations to ensure technical excellence and compliance throughout the full data center lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge and extensive experience with mechanical systems including air, refrigerant and water based cooling and heating systems, ventilation systems, hot and cold water services systems, process water systems and treatment, surface and foul water drainage systems.
  • Proven DC/Mission critical focused experience.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, ICT, security, architecture, civil and structural disciplines to enable effective cross discipline coordination and agreement of key interfaces.
  • Understanding in depth of the commissioning processes relating to Data Centre delivery, and all stages of the quality/integration processes from FWT to full tagging to IST / RFS.
  • Good commercial acumen with understanding of commercial impacts to technical decision making from capex to opex.
  • Professional and personable with the ability to lead meetings, workshops and presentations both upstream to end customers and downstream to supply chain partners.
  • Team-player, communicator and collaborator who will be able to form trusting relationships and interact at all times professionally with colleagues, peers and end clients.
  • Degree qualified in Engineering or equivalent is required. Alternatively, demonstrate equivalency in qualifications to this level.
  • Ing. or Chartered Engineer or working towards accreditation.
  • BIM conversant – able to use Navisworks to navigate and interrogate 3d information.
  • Experience in managing working relationships (internal & external) with cross-cultural experience, and encourage an approach to diversity within the team.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of BMS, fire suppression systems and acoustics preferred, but not necessary.
  • Uptime Institute or other industry approved accreditation preferred.
  • Member of ASHRAE or other professional organizations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and manage consulting partners to produce and develop BoD strategies, reference designs, and global/regional standards in partnership with the Global and regional design directorship, reporting directly under the Global VP Design.
  • Collaborate as part of the bench of technical expert SMEs within Yondr to ensure appropriate standards in design, management, and behaviors are consistently delivered.
  • Oversee live projects through to detailed design and sign-off the mechanical systems in accordance with global standards.
  • Undertake reviews at key project stage gateways to ensure mechanical systems are of the highest standards, fit for purpose, buildable, and cost-effective.
  • Support various business initiatives, including the continuous improvement of global design standards and innovations for future technologies.
  • Support the development team & utilities/power teams in utilities planning & procurement.
  • Engage with the supply chain to challenge the ‘norm’ and develop innovative solutions considering technical performance, resilience, energy efficiency, buildability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Continuously increase knowledge of data center services, systems, and components through involvement with manufacturing, construction, installation, commissioning, and operations to drive greater design standards.
  • Support the business in identifying opportunities to improve site infrastructure and reduce power usage effectiveness.
  • Lead technical aspects of providing specific related technical input to customers, collaborating with the project design manager/regional design management team.
