About The Position

The NPI Delivery Shells/Casings Mechanical Component Engineer within the Steam Turbine is responsible for designing the High and Intermediate Pressure Casings which enable world-class performance and reliability. This is a critical role requiring both system level knowledge of turbomachinery safety and detailed mechanical component expertise to design the critical stationary component within the turbine. GE Vernova is committed to addressing the climate crisis and driving change in clean energy generation through products like Steam Turbines. This role is part of the Sustainable Steam Solutions Engineering team, which develops and designs highly efficient turbomachines using the latest engineering sciences and digital technologies. New joiners will be part of an empowered and impactful team working across the entire product lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline OR equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Some experience in designing turbomachinery components.
  • Demonstrated excellence applying fundamentals of Mechanical Design, including material properties, statics, strength of materials, fluid dynamics, lifing methods related to fatigue and creep.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Legal right to work.

  • Demonstrated Project leadership skills with the mindset to handle several competing tasks.
  • Familiarity with the full manufacturing process including: casting, fabrication, machining, and factory assembly/ testing practices, specifically as applied to power generation equipment.
  • Tools/software knowledge: NX, ANSYS, microsoft business tools (word, excel, etc).

Responsibilities

  • Execute, with minimal guidance, the analysis, design, test and/or integration related to assigned components, assemblies or process systems that meet business standards, practices, and procedures, and meet the product/program requirements for New Product Introduction (NPI), Order-to-Requisition (OTR), and Readiness-to-Serve (RTS) activities for new units and aftermarket services.
  • Document technical data generated to substantiate the assigned components, assemblies and/or systems consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with global & cross-functional team of internal Steam Turbine Engineers and external stakeholders (Product Definition/Global Supply Chain) enabling & fostering mutual technical growth and delivering for our customers.
  • Lead the solution of complex technical problems to ensure robust designs that meet all required CTQs- conduct assessments and develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems.
  • Utilize Lean tools to improve current business products and processes.
  • Concurrently work on multiple projects, monitoring and communicate progress and quality, and ensuring schedule requirements are met.
  • Implement innovative analysis design, development concepts, or process and system solutions, while taking manufacturing technology, productivity and quality into consideration.
  • Follow rigorous NPI Tollgate Process from Conceptual Design thru field validation for all high-pressure shells and casing component designs across the full spectrum of Gas Power turbine configurations.
  • Design for EHS/Safety and demonstrate safety skillsets in support of manufacturing and field activities, i.e. lifting and transportation.
