About The Position

Aquaria is hiring a technical lead to own the internal tools used by its sales, operations, and customer success teams, along with the integrations, data flows, and developers behind them. The role partners with leaders across the company to determine what to build, contributes code every week, and is accountable for whether the systems help the business operate effectively. The role leads development of internal tools and integrations connecting the company’s SaaS platforms, establishes reliable core business data, and oversees identity and access management. It also involves leading developers, making build-versus-buy decisions, managing vendors and consultants, enabling secure and governed data access for teams and AI tools, and ensuring systems are monitored, documented, and recoverable. Aquaria builds machines that make clean drinking water from air. Its mission is to safeguard and unlock a sustainable future for clean water. The team uses AI in daily work and builds with AI coding tools. It favors shipping working versions early and iterating; most weeks follow regular hours, but outages in systems the team depends on are addressed the same day. Communication is often written and asynchronous. Remote candidates must have working hours that overlap with US Central time.

Requirements

  • Track record of shipping production software that others relied on as the primary engineer, including work from the past year.
  • Experience leading other engineers, including contractors, by scoping work, reviewing code, and owning results.
  • Daily, hands-on use of AI-assisted development.
  • Experience building third-party API integrations and data pipelines with data quality checks.
  • Comfort with relational databases, including writing queries to debug data issues across connected systems.
  • Experience migrating data from spreadsheets and legacy tools into a system of record.
  • Experience with access management and security practices for production systems.
  • Experience deploying, monitoring, and recovering production systems without data loss.
  • Strong written communication.
  • Track record of working with non-technical stakeholders and vendors.
  • For remote candidates, working hours must overlap with US Central time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Supabase, BigQuery, or Fivetran.
  • Experience with HubSpot, Aircall, or Salesmsg.
  • Experience with Docusign or CompanyCam.
  • Preference for shipping a working version quickly and iterating rather than waiting for a perfect version.
  • Ability to turn ambiguous requests into a plan, scope, and date.
  • Ability to notice problems proactively and address their root causes.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with sales, operations, customer success, and RevOps to set priorities and turn needs into a clear roadmap.
  • Build and maintain internal tools used by these teams, and drive adoption of the tools.
  • Build and maintain integrations and data pipelines connecting SaaS tools, while keeping data accurate and synchronized.
  • Establish a single source of truth for core business data, including customers, deals, installations, and payments.
  • Lead developers by scoping work, removing blockers, reviewing code, and maintaining a high standard for shipped work.
  • Make build-versus-buy decisions and manage SaaS vendors and consultants.
  • Own identity and access management across company software, including onboarding, offboarding, and credential hygiene.
  • Provide teams and their AI tools with secure, governed access to company data.
  • Set up monitoring and alerting for pipelines and tools, and lead responses to system failures.
  • Write and maintain documentation and runbooks for owned systems.
  • Set realistic timelines, deliver against them, and flag risks early.
  • Write code regularly and help decide what systems to build in partnership with company leaders.
