This role involves analyzing and assessing complex DER distribution system interconnections at numerous voltage levels. The Lead Engineer will document and communicate results and recommendations, including data interpretation, report writing, and summary presentations. They will also analyze and assess complex new customer connections to the distribution system. A key responsibility is developing distribution system power flow models using CYME Software for studying generation and storage interconnections, adhering to Avangrid Distribution Planning Guides. The position requires independent analysis, reviewing the work of peer engineers and consultants, and providing guidance to team members on Distribution Planning issues. The role demands a thorough understanding of various planning criteria, guidelines, standards (e.g., AVANGRID Distribution Planning Criteria, IEEE Standards, ANSI Standards, DER Interconnection Standards and Guidelines), and analysis software packages such as CYME, PSS/E, SYNERGY, and ASPEN. A deep understanding of Distribution Planning tools like GIS (ArcFM), SAP, and Load Data systems is also necessary. The Lead Engineer will continually strive for innovation and improvements in distribution planning precision and efficiency, and seek to develop subject matter expert skills to mentor and support the team. This role also involves leading and mentoring team members, representing the department on industry committees, serving on cross-functional teams, and clearly communicating analysis results to stakeholders. The position may also require assisting during storm restoration efforts.
