About The Position

The Lead Engineer will have technical ownership of upper powertrain components for internal combustion engines, including air manifolds, cylinder heads and water jackets, valves and rotators, rocker arms, and push rods. Responsibilities include component design and design validation, supporting cost reduction initiatives through alternate sourcing and remanufacturing process optimization, and providing manufacturing and assembly support at Wabtec’s Grove City, PA engine facilities (GRV and GRR). This position is in-person and on-site at our Grove City facility. The role requires demonstrated experience in reciprocating engine development with component‑level expertise to develop and evaluate designs that satisfy application‑specific requirements for durability, performance, reliability, and total life‑cycle cost.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 2–5 years of experience supporting reciprocating or internal combustion engine development
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engine component design, with experience in heavy‑duty/off‑road applications (e.g., locomotive, mining, industrial)
  • Demonstrated experience executing reliability improvement projects, including root cause analysis and verification/validation of solutions
  • Ability to develop and execute component validation plans and reliability analyses (including Weibull analysis); strong working knowledge of GD&T
  • Proven ability to deliver results and lead technical efforts in a dynamic, cross‑functional environment with Sourcing, Manufacturing, and Quality teams
  • Strong project management, communication (oral and written), and interpersonal skills
  • Customer‑centric mindset with effective team leadership and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering ownership and technical guidance for manufacturing, assembly, and testing of cylinder heads, valves, valve train components, cylinder liners, and air intake manifolds
  • Evaluate and disposition non-conforming material (use, repair, or scrap) in a timely manner to minimize manufacturing impact at the Grove City facility
  • Support life‑cycle cost initiatives through development of repair technologies and component requalification processes to reduce scrap and improve productivity
  • Provide technical leadership to cross‑functional teams supporting component reliability, cost reduction initiatives (alternate sourcing and remanufacturing), and new product introduction
  • Author and manage engineering documentation, including CAD models, drawings, and specifications
  • Initiate and execute Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to maintain accurate design documentation
  • Lead component‑level DFMEAs and safety analyses
  • Ensure protection of company intellectual property throughout the product life cycle
