About The Position

As a key leader within our Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies joint venture, you will spearhead the validation of advanced IMUs and sensing solutions that power the worlds most sophisticated off-highway equipment. You will bridge the gap between digital design and physical performance, ensuring our cutting-edge electronic systems thrive in the most demanding real-world environments while driving innovation at the intersection of two global industry leaders. The Lead Electronic Verification & Validation Engineer is responsible for defining, planning, coordinating, and executing verification and validation activities for Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), angle sensors, and related electronic sensing components. The role ensures products meet performance, reliability, and quality requirements through structured, risk-based validation across the product lifecycle. This role serves as the primary V&V focal point within integrated product teams, providing technical leadership across electrical, mechanical, systems, firmware, manufacturing, and machine test domains. The position is accountable for ensuring validation coverage is complete, traceable, and sufficient to support product release decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Understanding of electronic product development across multiple disciplines (electrical, mechanical, firmware, systems).
  • Working knowledge of validation methods including lab, simulation, environmental, and machine testing.
  • Familiarity with durability and reliability engineering concepts.
  • Basic understanding of functional safety and cybersecurity concepts as they relate to validation.
  • Experience developing or executing test plans and DVP&R-based validation activities.
  • Working knowledge of FMEA-driven validation planning and risk mitigation traceability.
  • Ability to define test coverage based on requirements and product risk.
  • Ability to coordinate validation activities across multiple programs and test environments.
  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams and external test providers.
  • Ability to manage priorities across concurrent projects.
  • Ability to clearly communicate test status, results, and technical findings.
  • Experience producing structured test reports and validation documentation.
  • Comfortable presenting in program reviews.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with IMUs, MEMS sensors, or automotive/off-highway sensing systems
  • Background in reliability or durability validation
  • Experience in structured validation systems (DVP&R, gated development processes)
  • Strong hands-on lab or machine testing experience
  • Ability to work independently across multiple technical domains

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain verification and validation plans (DVP&R) for IMUs, angle sensors, and related components.
  • Translate product requirements and design risks into structured, risk-based validation strategies and test coverage.
  • Ensure validation coverage addresses performance, functional behavior, environmental robustness, durability, and reliability requirements.
  • Lead the application of FMEA outputs into validation planning, ensuring all identified risks are mapped to appropriate verification and validation activities with defined acceptance criteria.
  • Plan and coordinate validation activities across multiple venues, including: Simulation / virtual testing, Bench and lab testing, Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), Environmental testing, Machine-level testing, Field/Application testing
  • Coordinate internal resources and external test facilities as needed.
  • Ensure test readiness, proper execution, and adherence to defined procedures and acceptance criteria.
  • Review and analyze validation results to ensure completeness, technical correctness, and traceability.
  • Provide clear technical feedback and recommendations to design and development teams based on validation evidence.
  • Ensure validation results are documented, traceable, and properly archived.
  • Support program milestone reviews with concise validation status updates.
  • Own validation completeness assessment and provide recommendations on product readiness for design release based on validation evidence and residual risk.
  • Work closely with Product Managers, Technical Leads, Systems Engineers, Firmware Engineers, Manufacturing, and Program Managers.
  • Align validation plans with program schedules, product maturity, and resource availability.
  • Support multiple concurrent development and sustaining programs across the product portfolio.
  • Contribute to the development of standard validation workflows and best practices.
  • Capture lessons learned and drive improvements in validation methods and efficiency.
  • Support consistent application of validation processes across programs.
