About The Position

Under general supervision, leads, plans, schedules, and oversees the work of Electricians while performing the same and/or more difficult duties as those being led; ensures completion of tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures; communicates policies, procedures and job expectations; and provides training to staff.

Requirements

  • Seven years of full-time paid experience as an electrician.
  • Including two years at the journey level and two years in a commercial and/or industrial environment.
  • A valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, shall be required at the time of appointment.
  • Must be able to carry 15 pounds of equipment for over 100 feet.
  • Must be able to go up and down flights of stairs and climb a ladder.
  • Must be able to work in a bent, kneeling, or prone position for over 15 minutes at a time.
  • Must be able to work while standing or kneeling for extended periods of time while wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to enter and exit through restricted entrances of 30 inches in diameter and work in awkward positions in tight spaces.
  • Must demonstrate color vision sufficient to distinguish the colors of electrical wiring.
  • Must have normal sense of smell and normal or corrected vision and hearing to observe process and equipment functions for normal and abnormal occurrences.
  • Must have normal sense of touch to detect abnormalities in temperature, flow, and vibration.
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing in excess of 50 pounds with assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a five year state accredited electrician apprenticeship program may substitute for five years of the non-journey level experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and train Electrician trade staff
  • Plan, coordinate, assign, and review the work of staff
  • Provide work direction and instruction
  • Research and evaluate work problems, and recommend solutions
  • Develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with others
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Apply customer service skills, including the identification of customer needs and follow up to ensure customer commitments have been met
  • Plan electrical wiring systems
  • Read blueprints and compile material lists
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Read, follow and interpret electrical three line or single line diagrams of electrical circuits and locate equipment or devices including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
  • Operate a variety of motor vehicles, power tools, test equipment and hand tools
  • Use computer software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Perform diagnostics to determine faults and logic problems
  • Operate a laptop to troubleshoot and determine machine control Programmable Logic Control (PLC) faults and logic problems
  • Document machine control Programmable Logic Control (PLC) and control circuit modifications
  • Interpret manuals, factory schematics, and reference materials to implement innovative solutions to complex problems
