Lead Electrical Engineer

INFICON•East Syracuse, NY

About The Position

INFICON is seeking a versatile Lead Electrical Engineer to lead technical work at the intersection of hardware, firmware, and AI. The role balances new product development with sustaining engineering and involves architecting embedded systems that bring real-time intelligence to hardware. The engineer will join INFICON’s Electrical Engineering team in Syracuse, NY, which designs precision electronics for sensor and instrumentation products. The team works across analog and digital circuits, embedded systems, RF electronics, power supplies, PCB layout, component selection, and prototype testing, from early MVPs through series production. This is a technical leadership position, not a people-management role. The engineer will set technical direction for assigned subsystems, guide other engineers, and help evaluate whether AI-enabled tools can improve electronics workflows. The position works across hardware, software, mechanical, and product functions in a cross-functional Agile environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience in electrical and embedded systems design, including taking products from concept through production and maintaining them throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Expert-level proficiency with EDA tools such as Cadence OrCAD.
  • Deep understanding of analog and digital circuit design, power management, and EMI/EMC compliance.
  • Experience designing and implementing systems centered on MCUs, DSPs, or FPGAs.
  • Ability to act as a product owner for assigned subsystems and make data-backed decisions under ambiguity.
  • Ability to move between architectural brainstorming and detailed troubleshooting of production issues.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban and tools such as Jira.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing precision analog electronics.
  • Interest in collaborating with physicists, chemists, materials scientists, software engineers, and mechanical engineers to bring product visions to life.
  • Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge and guiding other engineers on technical topics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end design from initial concept and schematic capture through high-density PCB layout and production launch.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership in high-precision analog design, digital electronics, power management, MCU-, DSP-, or FPGA-based embedded systems, and EMI/EMC compliance.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to integrate DSP solutions into larger system architectures, ensure interoperability, and debug complex system-level issues.
  • Balance new product development, including prototyping, validation, and innovation, with sustaining engineering, including troubleshooting field issues, managing component obsolescence, and pursuing cost reductions.
  • Use a lean, hypothesis-driven approach by building breadboard MVPs, putting them in customers’ hands, validating assumptions, and iterating.
  • Review designs, test plans, and documentation, and provide technical guidance to other electrical engineers.
  • Participate in Agile team sprints and communicate across hardware, software, mechanical, and product functions.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, new component technologies, and design methodologies, and help evaluate their potential impact on work practices.

Benefits

  • Profit-sharing bonus with a target of 10%.
  • 401(k) match up to 8%, subject to a vesting schedule.
  • Flexible work hours.
  • Health and wellness programs.
  • Relocation assistance.
  • Discretionary bonus.
  • Major medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Vacation and sick time.
