About The Position

Hypertec is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering (Construction) team in Montreal. This role involves developing electrical system designs for data center infrastructure, performing various analyses, coordinating with utility providers, and integrating electrical systems with mechanical equipment. The position also requires supporting integration of monitoring systems, participating in vendor discussions, providing internal support, and assisting with commissioning activities. A key aspect of this role is regular business travel, primarily to the United States, requiring the candidate to meet US immigration criteria for business travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5–12 years of experience in electrical design or mission-critical facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and relevant local codes.
  • Understanding of redundancy strategies (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1).
  • Familiarity with EPMS and BMS system architecture.
  • Experience with fast-track design-build environments.
  • Experience with FAT/SAT testing for generators, UPS, and MV gear.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, or similar tools.
  • An essential component of this position is regular and consistent business travel, mainly to the United States. It is a requirement of this position that the candidate satisfy the applicable criteria set by the US Immigration and Nationality Act for business travel to the United States, which criteria include, for example, the ability to demonstrate that they are a citizen or national of a country that is eligible for the Visa Waiver Program or are otherwise visa exempt.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical system designs for high-, medium- and low-voltage distribution specifically for data center infrastructure, including switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, MV-LV gear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, ATS/STS, paralleling gear, busways, and RPP/whips.
  • Perform load calculations, short-circuit analysis, arc-flash studies, and coordination studies.
  • Coordinate with utility provider on incoming service requirements for large-scale data center facilities.
  • Integrate electrical systems with mechanical equipment such as chillers, HVAC and other data center cooling systems.
  • Support integration of EPMS/BMS monitoring systems.
  • Participate in vendor design discussions and review drawings and submittments.
  • Provide internal support to SCM and prefabrication teams.
  • Support commissioning activities.
