Advanced Laser Systems Technology (ALST) has an immediate opening for a Lead, Electrical Engineer. ALST is located in Orlando, Florida and is part of Intelligent Manufacturing Solutions (IMS) which is headquartered in Londonderry, NH. The Lead, Electrical Engineering, is an integral member of the ALST Engineering team. This individual is responsible for leading Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) and Digital Hardware development, electrical system and subsystem architecture, analysis, system diagrams, circuit design, and component selection for the electronics associated with advanced laser systems. This is an onsite position and requires the individual to have a well-rounded background with knowledge of circuit card development and digital and analog engineering practices. He / she must possess the ability to work with design and development engineers and production technicians to support product development, verification, transition into manufacturing, and to support designs in production.

Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a wide array of professional levels and functions.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot electrical issues and resolve problems on a variety of products.
  • Knowledgeable of Military Specifications/Standards.
  • Ability to use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies and pulse generators.
  • Hands on experience with circuit boards including soldering and debug.
  • Possess exceptional communication (both oral and written) and listening skills, with a strong orientation to details, and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
  • Must be able to effectively flow down system requirements into a system test plan.
  • Demonstrated ability to make presentations to large audiences including customers, government personnel and senior management team members.
  • Strong relationship building skills at all levels of an organization and the ability to work effectively across functions.
  • Proven success in a fast-paced development and manufacturing environment and possess a willingness to take ownership, accept accountability, and thrive under pressure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a minimum of 10 years or Graduate Degree and minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 10+ years’ electrical design experience.
  • 8+ years’ experience with PCB / CCA development.
  • Orcad, Altium or equivalent schematic capture tools.
  • Serial and digital interfaces.
  • SPI, I2C, RS-422.
  • 6+ years’ experience with FPGA development and VHDL.
  • Libero (Microsemi), Quartus (Intel), Vivado (Xilinx) FPGA development tools.
  • Serial and digital interfaces.
  • Digital communication algorithm development and implementation.
  • 6+ years’ experience developing electronics for the DoD / military market.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Laser-based systems electronics is a plus.
  • Embedded software development experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Graphical User Interface (GUI) development, National Instruments LabWindows and LabView is a plus.
  • Experience with analog circuit design, SPICE circuit simulation, power supply design, and EMC design for compliance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Printed Circuit Board (PCB) / Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) development, including PCB stackup, schematic capture, component placement, routing, and signal integrity analysis.
  • Hardware development to include subsystem architecture, digital hardware design, board-level block diagrams, and system wiring diagrams.
  • Develop firmware to include FPGA system architecture, design documentation, VHDL coding, test bench design, FPGA sizing trades, FPGA power consumption estimation, and FPGA timing analysis.
  • Test and debug firmware and hardware designs.
  • Component selection to minimize electronics size and power draw while maximizing reliability.
  • Analysis of power consumption, component stress, worst case tolerances, and reliability.
  • Ability to develop and make technical presentations to customers and to internal management and peers.
  • Supervise and/or provide guidance in design certification tests and document results.
  • Troubleshoot component failures and investigate root cause of failures in system applications.
  • Recommend design improvements for failure prevention.
  • Monitors and defines priorities for the projects he/she is working on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for ensuring that specified quality standards are met for all tasks completed.
  • Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior in accordance with company values.
  • Performs job duties in a manner that maintains compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations, policies and procedures.
