About The Position

Kleinfelder, a Forbes' Top Employer for Engineers in North America, is seeking a Lead Electrical Controls Engineer to join their Water Technologies (KWT) team. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems for industrial, commercial, and municipal water and wastewater treatment systems. The engineer will collaborate with clients and the project team to analyze process treatment requirements and ensure optimal control system performance. This position is based in Northwest Ohio, with reporting options to Defiance or Perrysburg, OH, and requires occasional field visits and reliable transportation.

Requirements

  • Solid experience in designing and implementing electrical and control systems, with an emphasis on instrumentation, PLCs, and SCADA applications.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical for schematic design.
  • Experience in Allen Bradley RSLogix5000/Studio5000, Allen Bradley FactoryTalk View Studio, or equivalent control system software.
  • Extensive hands-on experience developing and troubleshooting PLC logic and designing HMI/SCADA interfaces for process control systems.
  • Deep understanding of selecting and configuring instrumentation for process analysis and control.
  • Strong ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues with electrical hardware, software, and process control systems.
  • Ability to effectively document system designs, troubleshoot issues, and communicate technical details clearly to both team members and clients.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical, Allen Bradley RSLogix5000/Studio5000, and Allen Bradley FactoryTalk View Studio.
  • Experience with AC variable frequency drives.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong focus on practical, hands-on engineering work, including designing, testing, and troubleshooting electrical control systems.
  • Satisfactorily complete employment reference checks, verification of professional licensure and/or educational credentials, a motor vehicle report (MVR), and a comprehensive background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AVEVA, Siemens, or Wonderware.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical, instrumentation, and control systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and client specifications.
  • Use AutoCAD Electrical to design schematics, layouts, and generate bills of materials for control system designs.
  • Write and implement PLC logic and develop HMI/SCADA applications to monitor and control treatment processes.
  • Select appropriate instrumentation for process treatment control and analysis.
  • Conduct onsite commissioning of new systems, ensuring systems are tested and fully functional, and troubleshoot related issues.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues.
  • Assist in developing operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Oversee the maintenance and functionality of KWT corporate asset electrical equipment.
