Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in radiation oncology.
  • Completion of dosimetry training and education by a medical physicist.
  • Certification by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of radiation, anatomy, normal tissue contouring, medical imaging fusion, and cross-sectional anatomy is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate from an approved American Association of Medical Dosimetrist (AAMD) program, an Accredited School of Radiologic Technology, or of an Accredited School of Radiation Therapy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Computes radiation dose distributions, generates isodose curves, and documents in the radiation oncology electronic record.
  • Provides direction or assistance with challenging simulation setups or custom treatment devices.
  • Consults with and works as a part of a radiation oncology team to deliver individualized treatment.
  • Performs dosimetry procedures with the department's treatment planning computers and protocols.
  • Acts as a point of contact for the dosimetry staff.
  • Assists management in ensuring that all hardware/software, protocols, and standard operating procedures are satisfactory.
  • Works with management to ensure adequate staffing and resources on a daily basis.
  • Directs the distribution of the patient workload within the dosimetry team.
