Lead DS Engineer Travel

The position requires managing Agency and Subcontractor labor, serving as the primary engineering liaison to Government POCs and base stakeholders, and coordinating base access, security requirements, installation schedules, materials, and personnel deployment. The Lead Distribution Systems Engineer will validate engineering deliverables, lead design reviews, planning sessions, and strategic decision-making for DS workstreams, and identify and mitigate engineering risks, design conflicts, and installation challenges. Support will be provided to program leadership with execution planning, reporting, and stakeholder engagement. A key aspect of this role is maintaining expert-level knowledge of AF/SF standards, TIA/EA, UFC, I3A, OSP/ISP, CEL requirements, and fiber technologies. The hiring/working location will be remote but will require approximately 75%-100% travel, specifically supporting daily implementation efforts at Eielson Air Force Base, Fairbanks Alaska for 7+ months, with potential opportunities for movement onto other initiatives upon completion.
Requirements
- 10+ years in telecommunications engineering, network infrastructure, OSP/ISP design, or related disciplines
- 5+ years leading multi‑discipline engineering teams in field or deployment environments
- Experience delivering large‑scale communications modernization projects for DoW, federal, or large enterprise environment
- Experience managing subcontractor labor and agency field teams
- Familiarity with AF/SF installation processes, base coordination, and engineering standards
- Strong background in OSP construction, fiber design/testing, and telecommunications room infrastructure
- BA/BS or equivalent, 5+ years of experience
- Secret clearance

- Experience leading on-site teams performing AFNET, DISA, or DoW network infrastructure/modernization programs
- BICSI OSP (Outside Plant Designer)
- FOA CFOT (Fiber Optic Technician)
- OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification
- Security+ CE (DoW requirement for base network environments)
