About The Position

Leidos is seeking a Lead Distribution Engineer (Underground) to support local utility customers, projects, and teams on Oahu, Hawaii. The position focuses on electric utility design engineering and maintaining high-quality deliverables while working directly with clients. Work includes underground distribution and subtransmission projects, such as underground residential and commercial development (URD/UCD), building vault redesigns, conventional underground switch replacement, and underground asset replacement. Overhead design support—including structural pole modeling, overhead reconductoring, and road widening—is also required. The engineer develops work packages for underground residential/commercial, conventional underground, network underground, make-ready, overhead, and street-light projects using customer GIS and WMS systems such as SAP and/or Bentley Expert Designer. The role also includes reviewing client-provided work and scope requirements; supporting engineering calculations and design coordination; estimating project costs and developing bills of material; coordinating with utilities and addressing field engineering needs; preparing work permits, easement and right-of-way applications; and designing complex cable/conduit projects, medium-voltage vault switchgear, network systems, and distribution protection and coordination. The position performs QA/QC reviews, follows Leidos and client safety, design, and quality requirements, and involves both field and office work. Customer- and job-related travel is anticipated, including overnight travel, and use of a personal vehicle is required. The position is based on Oahu. Qualified candidates already on Maui and candidates from elsewhere in the United States interested in relocating are welcome; a competitive relocation package is available to eligible hires. Leidos describes a fast-paced, diverse work environment with flexible work hours and arrangements, and opportunities for career development, including PE licensure, PMP, leadership training, formal mentorship, and management opportunities.
