About The Position

CVS Health is hiring a Lead Director for our Cloud Platform engineering teams within Digital Engineering. This role will oversee the AWS infrastructure, DevOps practices, and delivery pipelines that product engineering teams utilize. The Lead Director will be responsible for multiple platform engineering teams that power the company's products and services, with a focus on improving delivery speed, reducing costs, and implementing smarter automation. This is a strategic architecture and leadership position that involves setting technical direction for AWS, DevOps, and CI/CD, managing the platform's security and compliance, overseeing cloud costs, developing self-service tooling for developers, and leading AI adoption. The role requires deep technical expertise, financial acumen, and strong leadership skills to leverage the platform as a competitive advantage. The position reports to an AVP within Digital Engineering and collaborates directly with executive engineering leadership.

Requirements

10+ years of experience in infrastructure or platform engineering
7+ years of experience leading engineering teams, managers, and technical portfolios
5+ years of hands-on AWS at enterprise scale experience - compute, networking, IAM, and managed data/messaging services such as MSK (Kafka), PostgreSQL (RDS/Aurora), and OpenSearch; serverless experience (Lambda, Fargate, Step Functions)
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Nice To Haves

Leadership experience in healthcare, insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated industry
Demonstrated success scaling CI/CD platforms and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) across multiple teams
Proven track record running a cloud cost optimization or FinOps program with measurable savings
Experience embedding security-by-design into cloud architecture, including IAM governance, encryption standards, and compliance with regulatory frameworks relevant to healthcare or other regulated industries
Executive-level communication skills, with the ability to translate technical strategy, cost, and risk for both technical and non-technical audiences
Experience building internal developer platforms (IDPs) or self-service tooling
Direct experience piloting or scaling AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) in an enterprise organization
AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or AWS Certified Security – Specialty
FinOps Foundation certification or demonstrated FinOps practice leadership
Experience influencing senior leaders across business, product, architecture, security, and data in a matrixed enterprise

Responsibilities

Setting the cloud platform strategy, target-state AWS architecture, and multi-year roadmap in partnership with Product, Architecture, Security, and enterprise stakeholders
Owning AWS security architecture and governance, including landing zone design, multi-account guardrails, and partnership with Security and Compliance to meet regulatory requirements and close audit findings
Leading AI adoption across the organization, including AI-assisted engineering tools for developers and AI-driven platform operations
Driving CI/CD standards and Infrastructure-as-Code adoption, and building self-service capabilities for product teams
Running cloud cost as a managed portfolio, including cost visibility, showback/chargeback, and an annual optimization target
Owning operational excellence across the platform, including observability, SLOs, incident management, and capacity planning
Leading multiple engineering teams and managers, including organizational design, hiring, coaching, and performance management
Representing the platform to senior stakeholders, communicating health, cost, and tradeoffs, and evaluating emerging technology for strategic fit
