About The Position

Patriot Disposal / Apple Valley Waste is seeking an experienced Lead Diesel Mechanic to join their fleet maintenance team. This role is responsible for ensuring waste collection vehicles and heavy-duty equipment are maintained and running smoothly. The Lead Mechanic will perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on diesel engines to ensure peak fleet efficiency. Requirements

Experience working as a diesel mechanic, preferably with waste management, heavy equipment, or truck fleets.
Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and air brake systems.
Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
Experience using diagnostic tools, mechanical hand tools, and power tools to complete repairs and maintenance tasks.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Ability to lift up to 70lbs and perform tasks in varying weather conditions, including working in tight spaces and on heavy equipment.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to track and manage multiple repair projects simultaneously.
Ability to quickly diagnose and solve mechanical problems, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum vehicle availability.

Nice To Haves

Additional technical training in diesel mechanics is preferred.
A valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is a plus.

Responsibilities

Perform diagnostic tests, maintenance, and repairs on diesel-powered waste management trucks and heavy equipment, including rear-load, front-load, and roll-off trucks.
Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance services, including engine checks, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire replacements.
Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and replace worn or damaged parts, such as brake systems, engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and air systems.
Ensure that all repairs and maintenance activities adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and company protocols.
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, hours worked, and services performed.
Work closely with other mechanics and supervisors to prioritize repairs and efficiently manage the fleet maintenance schedule.
