Lead Diesel Diagnostic Foreman

Western Truck ExchangeLos Angeles, CA
Onsite

About The Position

Western Truck Exchange is seeking a hands-on diesel foreman to lead advanced diagnostics, direct workflow, coach technicians, and ensure high repair quality in their shop. This is not a desk-only supervisor role. The ideal candidate will serve as the senior technical resource on the floor, responsible for determining correct repair paths, assigning work, removing production delays, and ensuring trucks are repaired correctly the first time. This role has real authority over dispatch, repair quality, technician coaching, and staffing recommendations, with support from Service and Parts leadership.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL, or willingness to obtain one while employed.
  • 5+ years of medium-duty or heavy-duty truck repair experience.
  • Strong diesel diagnostic ability, technical judgment, and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to lead technicians without losing credibility on the shop floor.
  • Strong organization and communication skills with technicians, advisors, parts, and management.
  • Ability to speak Spanish fluently.
  • Ability to road test vehicles as needed to diagnose concerns and verify repairs.

Nice To Haves

  • Dealership or fleet shop leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with OEM warranty processes and repair documentation standards.
  • Experience with CAT, Cummins, Allison, International, or Mitsubishi Fuso platforms.
  • Comfort using CDK or similar dealership management systems.
  • Experience improving shop workflow, dispatch discipline, technician productivity, or repair quality.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the shop's senior diagnostic resource for diesel truck repairs.
  • Review incoming repair work, identify the likely repair path, and confirm next steps.
  • Perform advanced diesel engine diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, and driveability analysis.
  • Use OEM service information, diagnostic software, scan data, service history, and AI-assisted diagnostic tools to improve root-cause accuracy.
  • Provide technical direction when a technician needs higher-level support or a job is not progressing correctly.
  • Assign jobs based on technician skill level, workload, repair complexity, parts availability, and customer commitments.
  • Lead daily production meetings to communicate priorities.
  • Monitor open repair orders, promised times, approvals, parts status, and delayed work.
  • Walk the floor regularly to identify and resolve roadblocks.
  • Communicate priority changes and escalation needs.
  • Review completed repair orders for accurate notes, confirmed repairs, and completed road tests.
  • Ensure clear root-cause documentation for future diagnostics, warranty support, and customer communication.
  • Enforce a no-comeback repair mindset and redirect failed quality checks.
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, coaching, and evaluating technicians.
  • Recommend staffing changes to ensure the shop has the right personnel.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience.
  • Profit sharing plan.
  • Quarterly incentive opportunities.
  • Paid training and development support.
  • Employee referral bonus.
  • CDL reimbursement support, as applicable for renewals, endorsements, or qualifying requirements.
  • A visible leadership role where your technical skill and judgment will be respected.
