About The Position

Air is seeking a Lead Designer, Design Systems to define and evolve its shared design system and design language. The role leads visual direction, interaction patterns, design-side governance, and experience quality across business products, while partnering with Design Engineers responsible for technical architecture, implementation, and design-to-development infrastructure. The Lead Designer will establish coherent foundations and patterns across web, mobile, and embedded experiences, while supporting multiple brands through scalable tokens, themes, assets, and visual foundations. The role will work with product designers to identify recurring user experience problems and develop reusable solutions, and will create examples, prototypes, principles, and guidance that improve visual design, usability, accessibility, interaction quality, and consistency. The position involves leading through influence: partnering with design, engineering, research, product management, and brand teams; facilitating critiques and system reviews; and defining contribution and governance models that support the system's evolution while preserving quality. The Lead Designer will also explore how AI and emerging technologies affect interfaces and define reusable principles for conversational, generative, agentic, and adaptive experiences. This is a fully remote contract position based out of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The listed pay range is $60.00–$70.00 per hour. Benefits for eligible temporary-role employees may include medical, dental, and vision coverage; critical illness, accident, and hospital coverage; a 401(k) retirement plan; life insurance; short- and long-term disability; a health spending account; transportation benefits; an employee assistance program; and time off or leave.

  • Define reusable interaction patterns for navigation, configuration workflows, notifications, system feedback, responsive behavior, data-rich experiences, embedded interfaces, and emerging interactions.
  • Work with product designers to identify recurring UX problems and turn effective solutions into reusable patterns.
  • Set a high bar for design craft through created work and championed standards.
  • Evaluate the design system in real product experiences and create examples, prototypes, principles, and guidance to improve visual design, usability, accessibility, interaction quality, and consistency.
  • Partner with designers, engineers, researchers, product managers, and brand teams to evolve the system based on product needs.
  • Facilitate critiques and system reviews, and guide teams on when to reuse, extend, or create patterns.
  • Define contribution and governance models that let teams contribute while protecting system quality and coherence.
  • Explore how AI and emerging technologies are changing product interfaces.
  • Define reusable principles and patterns for conversational, generative, agentic, and adaptive experiences.
