About The Position

Eaton’s Power Components Division is currently seeking a Lead Design Engineer. This is a hybrid position (3 days on-site, 2 days remote per week) based at our Moon Township, PA location. Relocation assistance will be provided to candidates currently residing within the US/PR. The expected annual salary range for this role is $97000 - $143000 a year. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in mechanical or electromechanical component / product design

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Experience using engineering tools such as Pro/Engineer Creo (or similar CAD), Excel, and basic analysis or simulation tools
  • Experience working with cross‑functional or global engineering and manufacturing teams
  • Experience with circuit breaker products and applicable standards preferred; related electromechanical product experience with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and standards is acceptable
  • Exposure to the development, manufacturing, or testing of industrial or electromechanical products
  • Familiarity with product safety standards or regulatory requirements (UL, IEC, CSA, or similar)
  • Working knowledge of quality or statistical tools (e.g., basic Six Sigma concepts, SPC, FMEA)
  • Expertise in mechanical and electromechanical design, with strong working knowledge of electrical fundamentals and system‑level interactions
  • Proven ability to translate high‑level product and performance requirements into robust, producible component and subsystem designs with minimal oversight
  • Proficiency in Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), including CTQ definition, tolerance and variation reduction, and data‑driven design trade‑off decisions
  • Strong risk management and structured problem‑solving capabilities, including expert use of FMEA/DFMEA and related tools to proactively identify, prioritize, and mitigate design, quality, reliability, and safety risks
  • Comprehensive understanding of design for manufacturability, quality, reliability, and cost, with demonstrated ability to influence design decisions across the full product lifecycle
  • Hands‑on laboratory, validation, and failure testing experience, with a consistent commitment to safe work practices and compliant test execution
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience leading failure investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development
  • Effective time and priority management skills, with the ability to independently balance multiple complex workstreams and commitments
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate, influence, and provide technical guidance within cross‑functional and global teams
  • Demonstrated adaptability, curiosity, and initiative in a continuous improvement and learning‑focused engineering environment
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus; willingness to travel approximately 10%, including occasional international travel

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, validate, and document molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) products in compliance with product requirements, applicable industry standards, and regulatory certifications
  • Serve as the design owner for assigned MCCB product lines, maintaining design margin and engineering integrity from concept through end of life
  • Lead new product development initiatives and drive performance, quality, reliability, and cost improvements for existing products
  • Validate design concepts using engineering analysis, modeling, simulation, and laboratory testing to confirm functionality, robustness, and required performance margins
  • Support product launch and manufacturing readiness, including production line support and resolution of early-life issues
  • Coordinate third-party certification testing; investigate failures or nonconformances and support design updates and revalidation as required
  • Identify and resolve design, quality, yield, and application issues using structured problem-solving methodologies
  • Support cost reduction initiatives (VA/VE), minor design changes, and supplier or component updates, including required validation activities
  • Define verification methods, control plans, and critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristics for assigned designs
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and project teams; provide technical input and clear status updates to engineers and stakeholders
