About The Position

Eaton’s Bussmann Division is currently seeking a Lead Design Engineer (Electrical). This is a hybrid position (3 days on-site, 2 days remote per week) based at our Ellisville, MO location. Relocation assistance will be provided to candidates currently residing within the US/PR. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this lead level engineering position serves as a technical lead and strategic contributor supporting fuse development for data center trends (DC4DC) and Eaton’s fastest growing protection platforms, including High Speed Fuses and Medium Voltage (MV) Fuses. The role will support and lead complex product development and sustains engineering activities, provides design authority for engineering changes executed through Engineering Requests (ERs) and Engineering Orders (EOs), and ensures alignment of technical decisions with Bussmann’s growth, reliability, and quality objectives. Additionally, the role works across global, cross functional teams, engineering, marketing, sales, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations, to deliver robust, scalable products that meet evolving data center and grid infrastructure requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in electrical product development
  • Knowledge of DC and/or MV (medium voltage) products and systems
  • Knowledge in product development of electric/mechanical assemblies in a rigorous engineering environment
  • Knowledge in the design of components with varied manufacturing processes including injection molding, stamping, machining and high-volume assembly processes
  • Knowledge of power test equipment and measurement instrumentation
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Competency in statistical analysis
  • Ability to effectively motivate and influence others without authority

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Physics from an accredited institution
  • Knowledge of electrical circuit protection products, electrical distribution systems, and applicable industry standards
  • Experience working within quality management systems
  • Experience in testing techniques
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling tools (SolidWorks, PTC Creo or others)

Responsibilities

  • Acts as technical lead and design authority for assigned fuse product families, owning engineering decisions, change control (ERs/EOs), and product integrity across the lifecycle.
  • Leads development and evolution of advanced fuse technologies for data center, grid, and power conversion applications, translating market and customer requirements into robust, scalable product architectures.
  • Plans and executes complex new product development and platform extensions from concept through launch, balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, risk, and schedule commitments.
  • Defines materials, processes, manufacturing strategies, and verification/validation plans to ensure global manufacturability, regulatory compliance, quality, and long-term reliability.
  • Provides product line support, drives root cause and corrective actions, applies continuous improvement methods, mentors engineers, and clearly communicates technical direction, risks, and progress to stakeholders.
