About The Position

The Lead Dentist provides comprehensive clinical care while supporting the efficiency, safety, and overall clinical excellence of the practice. This role ensures patients receive exceptional oral health services, meet established productivity standards, and contributes to a positive and collaborative clinic environment. In addition to direct patient care, the Lead Dentist provides mentorship, case guidance, and clinical support to associate dentists, Hygienists and Dental Assistants helping uphold evidence-based practices and fostering continuous professional development among the provider team.

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree in Dental Medicine
  • 10 years of clinical experience
  • Active NYS License in Dentistry

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive and periodic examinations, including digital radiographic exposure/diagnosis to patients within the designated clinical settings
  • Diagnosis and referral of oral conditions requiring specialty evaluation
  • Treatment of oral conditions requiring restorative care, extractions, endodontic and prosthetic care as determined by Delineation of Privileges and NYS Practice Act
  • Triage and treatment of emergency situations, as appropriate for the clinical setting
  • Completion of treatment logs, laboratory prescriptions, quality assurance records, and documentation of delivered services
  • Keep accurate and complete patient records
  • Will meet established productivity standards
  • Work directly with all Program Staff on all aspects of operations, both clinical and administrative as needed
  • Participate in all required employee training programs
  • Comply with all federal and state regulations and agency policies pertaining to HIPAA, false claims, whistleblower policies and all others
  • Keep all patient, personnel and business information confidential, access patient information on a need-to-know basis only, discuss confidential information in private areas only and conduct conversations with discretion to protect confidentiality
  • Complete Continuing Education as required for NYS Licensure
  • Provides Dental Administrative staff with needed documentation to ensure credentialing in a timely manner
  • Create positive first impressions for patients by welcoming all patients in a warm, friendly manner, presenting a professional image, and anticipating specific patient needs such as hearing impairments, language barriers and disabilities
  • Treat everyone with respect by putting the patient and family first and respond to the patient’s needs in a timely fashion; Model the OLVHS agency values integrity, respect, accountability, and teamwork
  • Communicate compassionately and effectively by taking time to be a good listener, trying to understand the patient’s needs and making sure any questions are answered
  • Maintain a safe environment by writing instructions and orders clearly, obtaining a second opinion from one of your colleagues if necessary, asking for assistance, knowing how to use all equipment and treating the equipment well
  • Performs all other job-related duties assigned by supervisor
  • Supervise associate dentists, Hygienists and Dental Assistants in clinical practice
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and guidance on treatment planning and clinical decision-making
  • Review complex cases and offer clinical support
  • Promote adherence to clinical standards and evidence-based dentistry
  • Support onboarding and training of new dentists
  • Encourage collaboration and communication among dental providers
  • Address clinical questions and provide real-time guidance as needed
  • Participate in provider performance discussions with leadership
