As a Lead Data Scientist, you will lead various initiatives through clever use of data and advanced analytics. You will be responsible for providing significant business value through the creation; maintenance; implementation of analytical models. You will also effectively communicate findings and recommendations to a business audience. This team will work in partnership with our Actuarial Pricing team to drive profitable growth for all product lines.

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in Data Science or another related field.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or any other relevant field.
  • Strong/excellent knowledge and understanding of: Data analysis, Programing/tools, Modelling techniques, Data warehouse/data management, Research, Architecture/design.
  • Ability to lead others to solve complex problems; uses analytical thinking, tools, and judgement to identify innovative solutions.
  • Ability to find the best solution to address specific business need, based on industry best practices.
  • Experience with following technologies is required: SQL and Python.
  • Proficiency in both English and French is essential to the main duties in this role, including servicing and communicating primarily with majority anglophone and francophone clients, groups, and teams. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree and ACAS or FCAS designations are considered an asset.
  • Experience with the following technologies is an asset: Spark.

Responsibilities

  • Lead data science projects and "deep dive" analytics, with guidance from your manager, including giving direction and training to more junior colleagues as well as reviewing their work.
  • Accountable that the outcome of the projects you lead meet the business objectives.
  • Autonomously design data science projects by breaking complex problems or high-level business objectives into smaller problems that can be addressed using data science.
  • Champion the use of a scientific methodology in all projects, tasks, and interactions.
  • Advise on the application of data science techniques on new and existing business problems, utilizing trends in the insurance market.
  • Autonomously make recommendations, and influence your audience towards an outcome, including management.
