Wells Fargo Bank N.A. seeks a Lead Data Engineer in Irving, TX. This role involves acting as a technical individual contributor, assisting in designing solutions for complex computer applications and initiatives. It requires a thorough understanding of available technologies, tools, and existing design frameworks. The position addresses complex problems requiring evaluation of intangible variance factors through data and situational analysis, and leads multiple complex modeling and analysis efforts across various business domains. The Lead Data Engineer serves as an expert technical resource to data engineering staff during design, testing, and implementation phases, and contributes as a key participant in large-scale software planning initiatives within the Technology organization. The role focuses on designing data services that support Strategic Enterprise Risk Management and building high-performing, scalable data pipeline platforms using Hadoop, Ab Initio, EXADATA, and cloud-based solutions. It also involves performing data analysis and modeling tasks within a data warehouse environment to support business intelligence and reporting needs, executing SQL queries, identifying issues in data and applications, and collaborating with leadership to design effective solutions. The position requires making informed decisions in multi-faceted data engineering scenarios and strategically collaborating with internal partners to resolve high-risk data engineering challenges. Maintaining and managing data architecture for multiple applications using established software architecture design principles, performing scoping activities, gathering requirements, and leading design efforts are also key responsibilities. Creating data models and designing data structures for seamless integration, and participating in researching and resolving production issues to ensure system stability and data integrity are crucial. The role engages throughout the entire project lifecycle, with a strong focus on technical requirements and database design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience in the job offered or in a related position involving software engineering experience.
  • Experience designing and building scalable data pipelines using technologies such as Hadoop, Ab Initio, EXADATA, and cloud platforms.
  • Proven ability to perform complex data modeling and analysis within a data warehouse environment.
  • Strong experience in writing and optimizing SQL queries for data analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with distributed computing frameworks and big data tools to manage large-scale data processing.
  • Experience implementing data services and platforms in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Ability to design data services that support Strategic Enterprise Risk Management functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions in multi-faceted data engineering scenarios involving complex data relationships.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering, product, and internal business teams to resolve high-risk data challenges.
  • Proven track record of leading multiple modeling and analysis efforts with broad impact across the organization.
  • Ability to act as a technical resource and mentor to other data engineering staff during design, testing, and implementation phases.
