About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Lead Data Engineer for their Enterprise Data & Analytics team. This is a remote position. The role involves leading data design, prototyping, and development of data pipeline architecture. Responsibilities include implementing internal process improvements, automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and redesigning infrastructure for scalability. The Lead Data Engineer will also conduct cause analysis on external and internal processes and data to identify improvement opportunities and answer questions. Excellent analytical skills are required for working with unstructured datasets. The position requires understanding architecture, being a team player, leading technical discussions, and communicating technical concepts effectively. This role serves as a senior individual contributor within the Data or Software Engineering teams and will be part of the Technical Review Board alongside the Manager and Principal Engineer. The Lead Data Engineer will act as a technical liaison between the Manager, Software Engineers, and Principal Engineers, collaborating with software engineers to analyze, develop, and test functional requirements. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, actively designing, developing, reviewing, and optimizing production-grade data pipelines, data products, and platform capabilities. The individual will maintain significant contributions to production codebases while establishing engineering standards, mentoring team members, and driving the delivery of scalable, resilient solutions. They will also mentor and coach other engineers, work with team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology, and evaluate technical feasibility. The role operates within an Agile/Safe/Scrum environment to deliver high-quality software. Key responsibilities include establishing architectural principles, selecting design patterns, and mentoring team members on their application, as well as facilitating and driving communication between front-end, back-end, data, and platform engineers. The Lead Data Engineer will play a formal Engineering lead role in their area of expertise and stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments.
