About The Position

The Legal eDiscovery & Information Governance role serves as a senior individual contributor and organizational thought leader responsible for enterprise‑level eDiscovery strategy, program oversight, and process architecture. This role operates at the intersection of Legal, Security, IT, Compliance, and Records Management to ensure defensible, scalable, and cost‑effective management of electronically stored information (ESI) across its full lifecycle. In this role you will lead strategic planning, program management, process design and implementation, and acts as a trusted advisor to Legal leadership on emerging discovery risks, technology evolution, and regulatory obligations. The role has broad influence without direct people management and is expected to shape policy, standards, governance models, and long‑term roadmap decisions impacting the enterprise.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of eDiscovery experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as enterprise thought leader for Legal eDiscovery, ESI lifecycle management, and information governance strategy.
  • Anticipate and respond to emerging technologies, regulatory trends, court expectations, and compliance risks, translating them into actionable strategy and standards.
  • Partner with Legal, Security, and IT leadership to define future‑state eDiscovery and data governance capabilities, including Microsoft 365, Purview, cloud platforms, device ecosystems, and emerging collaboration tools.
  • Represent eDiscovery interests in enterprise architecture, vendor evaluations, and major transformation initiatives.
  • Lead enterprise eDiscovery programs and large‑scale initiatives, including divestitures, data migrations, system retirements, ESI deletion cycles, and compliance transformations.
  • Oversee multi‑year roadmaps, funding justifications, business cases, and executive‑level reporting for eDiscovery‑related programs.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional teams (Legal, IT, Security, Privacy, Records, Asset Management, Vendors) without formal authority, ensuring accountability and outcomes.
  • Design, document, and maintain defensible, auditable eDiscovery and legal hold processes, including: Legal hold preservation and release, Custodian and device management (COUs, laptops, cloud sources), Collection, processing, retention, and deletion of ESI.
  • Develop and govern standards, methods & procedures (M&P), metrics, and internal audit frameworks to support defensibility and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure consistent application of process across jurisdictions, matters, and business units.
  • Act as advisor for complex litigation, regulatory requests, investigations, and class actions.
  • Provide guidance on preservation scope, proportionality, data sources, and technical feasibility.
  • Support executive leadership, Legal leadership, and outside counsel with expertise on high‑risk or non‑standard discovery scenarios.
  • Evaluate and guide adoption of legal and investigative technologies, including eDiscovery platforms, forensic tools, automation, and analytics.
  • Partner with Security and IT on tooling alignment, access models, and Zero Trust considerations related to discovery operations.
  • Influence enterprise tooling decisions to ensure Legal requirements are incorporated early and consistently.
  • Identify, prioritize, and deliver automation opportunities across eDiscovery and information governance workflows (e.g., legal hold notifications and acknowledgements, custodian tracking, collection intake, chain-of-custody documentation, exception handling, reporting).
  • Define and implement AI-assisted capabilities to improve speed and quality of discovery operations, such as semantic search, relevance clustering, privilege and PII spotting, communication pattern analysis, and intelligent QA of productions—ensuring outputs are defensible and reviewable.
  • Establish governance for AI use in Legal workflows (approved use cases, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, audit logging, model/data access controls, validation criteria, and repeatability standards) in partnership with Privacy, Security, and Compliance.
  • Partner with IT and platform owners to embed automation and AI into enterprise toolsets (e.g., Microsoft 365/Purview and eDiscovery platforms), including integration patterns, role-based access, and secure data handling.
  • Develop success metrics and executive reporting for automation/AI adoption (cycle-time reduction, cost avoidance, error-rate reduction, consistency, and defensibility indicators), and drive continuous improvement based on measured outcomes.
