Lead Cyber Engineer

Integer Technologies•Tallahassee, FL

About The Position

Integer Technologies seeks a Lead Cyber Engineer to provide senior-level technical leadership across research efforts supporting Navy-relevant cyber-physical systems, with a primary focus on the cyber resilience of naval power and energy systems. The role is located in Tallahassee, Florida, and centers on joint work with Florida State University’s Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS) as part of a Navy-funded cyber-physical security program. The Lead Cyber Engineer will help shape technical approaches for Zero Trust Architecture development, cyber-physical resilience research, and threat-informed defensive methods for naval power systems. The role guides junior and mid-career engineers and serves as a key technical interface with Navy sponsors and CAPS university partners, who contribute modeling, simulation, experimentation, and AI/ML research for power system security. The engineer will also support business development and capture by identifying research directions, drafting technical proposal content, and engaging sponsors. The position requires initiative, deep expertise in cyber-physical research—particularly power systems and embedded controls—and the ability to execute complex R&D with minimal oversight.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience, or Master’s degree and 6 years of experience, in cybersecurity, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in cyber-physical systems research, including modeling, simulation, cyber risk assessment, vulnerability analysis, or dynamic defense concept development; power systems or embedded control systems experience is preferred.
  • Strong background in state-of-the-art cybersecurity approaches, including AI/ML-based anomaly detection, embedded systems security, and power systems cybersecurity.
  • Experience with AI/ML-enabled anomaly detection or modeling approaches for embedded systems.
  • Experience designing, executing, or leading laboratory-, simulation-, and field-based experiments for cyber-physical resilience assessment.
  • Excellent communication skills for sponsor interaction, proposal development, documentation of complex technical findings, and cross-institution collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cyber research for power systems or naval shipboard power and energy systems.
  • Experience collaborating directly with university research groups or academic laboratories, such as CAPS-style modeling and simulation environments.
  • Familiarity with Navy platforms, maritime cyber-physical systems, or electrification of naval platforms.
  • Experience developing or applying mission-impact models and digital modeling environments to simulate cyber-physical interactions for power systems.
  • Proficiency developing or using digital modeling and simulation environments for cyber-physical resilience and mission-level assessment.
  • Experience contributing technical content to proposals, white papers, or long-term research plans, and familiarity with DoD research program workflows.
  • Experience working in CUI environments or contributing to multi-phase research deliverables and technology transition planning.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across cyber-physical R&D for Navy-relevant power systems, structuring tasking, refining approaches, and guiding engineers conducting system modeling, cyber risk analysis, dynamic cyber defense research, and feasibility studies.
  • Lead research into dynamic cyber defense methods and cyber-resiliency frameworks for embedded control systems, including vulnerability taxonomies, defensive strategies, mission-impact metrics, lifecycle-aware resilience approaches, and Zero Trust Architecture development for naval power systems.
  • Drive AI/ML-based anomaly detection research for embedded systems and support integration of advanced analytics into modeling, simulation, and test environments for power system security workflows.
  • Develop and oversee bench-scale experiments and digital modeling environments, as well as controlled field demonstrations, to validate cyber-physical resilience approaches.
  • Serve as a primary technical interface with Florida State University’s Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS) and other university partners, coordinating joint research, experiment planning, shared modeling and simulation, and AI/ML development focused on power system cyber resilience.
  • Collaborate with Navy sponsors, program managers, and research teams to refine technical plans, present findings, support assessment cycles, and manage task interdependencies aligned with SOW milestones.
  • Contribute to business development and capture by shaping research directions, authoring technical proposal content, and maintaining relationships with government and academic stakeholders.
  • Produce research papers, experiment reports, sponsor deliverables, and presentations that communicate complex technical findings to non-experts and government sponsors, while ensuring CUI data security.
