About The Position

The Lead Custodian is a hands-on position responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout Meow Wolf’s Los Angeles site. The role works closely with the contracted custodial team to uphold guest experience standards, oversees daily cleanliness efforts, monitors facility needs, coordinates supply and equipment inventory, and shares operational recommendations to support efficient facility operations. The position reports directly to the Facility Manager. This full-time, on-site position is based in Los Angeles, California, and pays $27 per hour. Schedules are based on business needs and must accommodate times when the exhibit is closed to the public. The position requires a flexible schedule, with occasional evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday work as duties demand. It does not require travel.

Requirements

At least 3 years of experience in custodial, environmental services (EVS), or janitorial work.
Experience with general janitorial duties and cleaning equipment.
Ability to follow and enforce safety rules, including occupational hazard and safety regulations.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days and weekends, and to accommodate times when the exhibit is closed to the public.
Ability to adapt in a fast-paced work environment.
Professional demeanor and courtesy in public spaces.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions and pay attention to detail.
Thorough knowledge of common cleaning and maintenance tools, equipment, materials, and building-cleaning methods.
Experience operating general hand tools and cleaning equipment, and ability to maintain cleaning equipment and machinery.
Knowledge of employee policies and procedures.
Ability to interpret directions on cleaning products and equipment.
Ability to accept criticism and remain calm and effective in stressful situations.
Willingness to take on challenges and responsibility, adapt to change, and assist guests or fellow team members outside one’s comfort zone.
Enthusiasm for work and creating a positive guest experience; ability to communicate with compassion and positivity.
Ability to perform physically demanding custodial work, including lifting up to 60 pounds.
Ability to comply with company and OSHA workplace safety protocols.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States; visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary hands-on custodian, keeping the site clean, well-maintained, and guest-ready.
Work alongside the vendor custodial team to maintain high guest experience standards.
Clean, inspect, and care for artwork, specialized exhibit elements, flooring, and surfaces in Front of House and Back of House spaces.
Coordinate daily cleaning tasks, assign areas or items for cleaning, and ensure routine coverage across designated work zones.
Inspect cleaning equipment and facilities daily and perform minor equipment repairs as needed.
Report daily operations, site conditions, supply needs, and vendor team matters to the Facility Manager.
Provide the Facility Manager with input on scheduling, resourcing, and vendor service updates.
Identify cleaning staff training needs or skill gaps and communicate recommendations to the Facility Manager.
Maintain operational logs, check-in records, and custodial maintenance reports.
Perform other related custodial and coordination duties as assigned.
