About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is hiring a Lead Custodian to provide day-to-day direction to custodial staff. This role involves coordinating schedules, assigning work, monitoring task quality and completion, and following up on areas needing attention. The position is part of the Plant Operations unit at the Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) in New Haven, CT. DMHAS aims to promote the overall health and wellness of individuals with behavioral health needs through a network of services and supports. CMHC is a community mental health center with a tradition of serving individuals with serious mental illness, focusing on community-based treatment, research, and professional training.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience in work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
  • Knowledge of building custodial and/or housekeeping work and related equipment.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate, care for and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.
  • Ability to utilize computer software.
  • Supervisory ability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with custodial and/or housekeeping work and related equipment.

  • Experience utilizing computer software, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Plans crew workflow and determines priorities.
  • Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work.
  • Establishes and maintains crew procedures.
  • Provides staff training and assistance.
  • Conducts or assists in conducting performance evaluations.
  • Acts as liaison with operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures.
  • Ensures supplies and equipment for crew are adequate by reporting shortages to supervisor.
  • Performs full range of duties as outlined in Custodian class specification.
  • May make recommendations on policies or standards.
  • May prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Performs related duties as required.
