About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting for one (1) full-time Lead Custodian position at Platt Technical High School in Milford, CT. This role is crucial in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. As a working supervisor, you will guide and support a team of custodians, ensuring the school is maintained to the highest standards. Responsibilities include coordinating daily operations, prioritizing and assigning work, training and mentoring staff, assisting with performance evaluations, and collaborating with school personnel and outside partners to support efficient facility operations. This is a year-round position with 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience in work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
  • Knowledge of building custodial and/or housekeeping work and related equipment
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to operate, care for and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work
  • Utilize computer software
  • Supervisory ability

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading a crew of custodians in a school or commercial building.
  • Experience monitoring supplies and equipment for your team/crew and reporting shortages to supervisor.
  • Experience waxing and polishing floors using floor polishers and buffers.
  • Experience moving furniture in a school and/or setting up classrooms.
  • Experience removing snow and ice from stairways and walkways around schools or commercial buildings, using equipment such as a shovel, blower, or plow.
  • Experience performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.
  • Experience in deep cleaning, using sanitizing equipment and solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Plans crew workflow and determines priorities
  • Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work
  • Establishes and maintains crew procedures
  • Provides staff training and assistance
  • Conducts or assists in conducting performance evaluations
  • Acts as liaison with operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures
  • Ensures supplies and equipment for crew are adequate by reporting shortages to supervisor
  • Performs full range of duties as outlined in Custodian class specification
  • May make recommendations on policies or standards
  • May prepare reports and correspondence
  • Performs related duties as required
