About The Position

Under the Supervision of the Facilities Manager, The Lead Custodian is responsible for implementing written cleaning procedures for cleaning and disinfecting all properties of Yakutat Tlingit Tribe to include, but not limited to, YTT main offices, Health Center (YCHC), Child Care, Senior Center, Natural Resources and several residential housing units. The Lead Custodian is charged with ensuring that all facilities are cleaned and sanitized in accordance with YTT and YCHC procedures and universal precautions protocol. This position provides direction, training and supervision of custodial staff and is responsible for ensuring that custodial staff have the tools, supplies and skills needed to do their jobs. This position is responsible for ensuring that general cleaning tasks are completed in all areas, offices, corridors, stairwells, elevators, public and other assigned areas and properties, in accordance with all operating procedures, infection control and safety policies. This position requires compliance with YTT’s compliance standards, including its Standards of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element considered as part of the position’s regular performance evaluation.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of established safety policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of cleaning principles, techniques and utilization of proper cleaning products, standard of precautions, transmission-based precautions, types and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the requirements of the hazard
  • Knowledge of safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Knowledge of the use of various cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Skill in proper use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
  • Skill in operating cleaning equipment such as a vacuum cleaner and other powered cleaning equipment.
  • Skill in following instructions; prioritizing and organizing work.
  • Skill in the provision of customer service.
  • Skill in the use of such office equipment as a computer, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of custodial experience performing similar duties preferred.
  • Possession or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alaska with a clean driving record.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history and background check.
  • Must present vaccination documentation or submit to immunity testing for Tdap, hepatitis B, measles, varicella, and influenza within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Must attend in person training by YCHC Facilities Manager and verify that they adhere to YCHC cleaning policies and procedures.
  • Communicates to all Custodians on shift the Supervisor’s instruction and methods of completing assigned work.
  • Inspects work assigned and ensures assignments are completed.
  • Checks work in progress; demonstrates proper work methods; orientates and educates new staff; reports to supervisor, the progression of work and is accountable for the completion of duties assigned.
  • Provides hands-on training to all custodial staff and verifies that they adhere to YTT’s and YCHC’s cleaning policies and procedures.
  • Performs custodial duties following a Check Off list. The list must be strictly adhered to for quality control purposes.
  • Performs minor maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all the medical and dental work and patient care areas daily to include exam rooms, laboratory, x-ray, and visitor areas.
  • Completes daily housekeeping duties of all buildings/departments to include vacuuming, dusting, laundry, windows, sweeping, mopping, daily sanitizing of high touch surfaces and proper handling of all garbage waste. Assist in keeping walkways and exits free of debris and obstructions.
  • Replenish cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance supplies as needed.
  • Ensures all supplies are stocked and ordered as needed.
  • Properly handle and store all hazardous waste.
  • Assist in maintaining an updated listing on file of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) information for all applicable clinic departments.
  • Assists with incoming and outgoing deliveries as needed.
  • Utilize a daily check off system for monitoring daily routine and non-routine housekeeping tasks.
  • Responsible for managing custodial staff schedules.
  • Responsible for evaluating the daily work performance of custodial staff
  • Responsible for submitting written reports on all major department concerns, including sanitation, safety or personnel issues to direct supervisor.
  • Assist with hiring, supervising, evaluating, and correcting performance.
  • Assist in emergency preparedness and maintaining building security.
  • Wears appropriate personal protective equipment as per training, signage and product labels. Adheres to safety regulations as per departmental training.
  • Must comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Performs related duties.
