About The Position

Neogen is looking to hire a Lead Cost Accountant who will be responsible for performing all necessary analysis and reconciliations to maintain an accurate inventory system as well as performing cost accounting and analysis. This role involves overseeing at least one direct report and managing cost accounting functions for multiple sites. The Lead Cost Accountant will identify opportunities for cost savings, lead cost reduction projects, and resolve inventory discrepancies. Additionally, they will assist with inventory reserve calculations, analyze variances, conduct standard cost updates, and perform month-end closing analysis for cost of sales. This position also involves partnering on audit requests, administering SOX controls, and supporting budget preparations related to product costs. The role also includes participating in inventory reduction efforts, tracking scrap and obsolete inventories, and working closely with Operations on physical inventory counts and troubleshooting inventory discrepancies.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting
8 years' experience in cost accounting

Responsibilities

Oversee at least one direct report.
Manage and support cost accounting functions for multiple sites.
Conduct analysis of costs, identify opportunities for cost savings, and lead cost reduction projects.
Investigate and resolve any discrepancies that occur within inventory sub-ledger within ERP.
Assist with review of quarterly inventory reserve calculation.
Perform analysis of actual versus standard variances.
Conduct annual standard cost update.
Perform month end closing cost of sales analysis.
Partner on both internal and external audit requests; administer cost accounting-related SOX controls.
Support budget preparations and analysis in regards to product costs.
Participate in divisional efforts in inventory reduction.
Track scrap and obsolete inventories.
Work closely with Operations on physical inventory counts.
Troubleshoot inventory discrepancies, cycle counts, and other inventory functions as requested.
