About The Position

This is a full-time Lead Cook position in dietary operations. It offers an opportunity for mentorship, skill expansion in cooking and leadership, and hands-on experience. The role is for individuals who take pride in great food, a clean kitchen, and teamwork, and whose work will be noticed and appreciated.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Exceptional knowledge of dietary terminology and processes or the ability to learn and retain quickly
  • Strong communication skills and a service-focused attitude
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Ability to work independently with normal supervision and use good judgment
  • Professionalism and commitment to confidentiality
  • Authorization to work in the United States and successful completion of the federal Form I-9 employment eligibility verification process.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout their employment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and cooks meals in accordance with Wyoming State Department of Health regulations and department approved recipes.
  • Uses only equipment in which competency has been demonstrated and achieved.
  • Adheres to daily, weekly, monthly schedule for cleaning food service equipment.
  • Assists in keeping kitchen and other dietary areas clean, organized and well stocked throughout shift.
  • Keeps all temperature logs up to date as required.
  • Maintains safe, sanitary conditions in storage areas according to established policy and procedure which includes proper labeling/dating of food and storage of raw meat/poultry.
  • Is consistently attentive to customers and provides prompt, courteous service. Keeps the Dietary Manager informed when problems may interfere with work being completed or customer concerns.
  • Accommodates changes in workload within the department. Demonstrates flexibility in schedule and work assignment needs.
  • Coordinates with medical staff and other departments to ensure efficiency as needed.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and other assigned meetings.
  • Adheres to accreditation and compliance standard guidelines.
  • Clarifies unclear or missing diet orders with nursing staff.
  • Assists with room delivery service as needed, including assembling patient trays, loading carts, and delivering meals to patients and residents.
  • Checks accuracy of meal tray against patient and resident menu selections.
  • Utilizes good communication skills to maintain positive relationships with patients, residents, providers, co-workers and other sections in the organization and with other facilities in the community.
  • Maintains a professional, organized and clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards.
  • Completes Work Assignments in a timely manner.
  • Assists visitors with directions whenever requested.
  • Always introduces self to patients, residents, families, and visitors when appropriate.
  • Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
  • Replenishes supplies as needed.
  • Follows all infection control practices including hand washing techniques, Standard Precautions and Isolation Precautions.
  • Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
  • Has the ability to do work on his/her own with normal supervision.
  • Observes safety-precautions.
  • Has the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Has the ability to read and understand equipment operation manual.
  • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives, maintain good employee relations, and interdepartmental objectives.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, trainings, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education and learning.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • Assist with properly training new Dietary employees.
  • Assist with recurrent training for all Dietary employees.
  • Be available for all scheduled shifts and covering shift when needed.
  • Follow the set schedule for defrosting necessary ingredients for daily meals.
  • Provides the Department Director with input to complete staff performance evaluations.
  • Recommends to the Department Director corrective action related to staff performance.
