About The Position

The Lead Configuration Management Specialist holds primary responsibility for directing and overseeing all configuration management (CM) operations within NIWC. This encompasses managing and controlling all hardware inventory, documentation, product releases, and software configuration baselines. The Lead acts as the principal authority guiding the Configuration Change Board (CCB), defining, implementing, and enforcing procedures for releasing new products and updates throughout the entire system life cycle. Crucially, this role serves as the primary liaison between the government, the prime contract Project Manager, and operations within the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC), ensuring seamless communication and alignment of mission objectives across all parties. Serving as the front face of the Combined Test Bed, the Lead is responsible for overseeing personnel and ensuring they meet all required criteria, clearances, and security protocols to enter and operate within the lab environment. Additionally, the Lead is responsible for overseeing shift schedules and must remain highly flexible to cover shifts on short notice in the event of personnel call-outs, ensuring continuous and uninterrupted operational support. This individual also provides strategic guidance for change management, requirements management (RM), and the overall Quality Management System (QMS). The Lead coordinates and oversees complex engineering modifications, including Field Changes (FC) and Engineering Changes (EC), while ensuring proper integration with repair, restoration, overhaul, and testing phases. Given the secure nature of the operational environment, this role demands rigorous attention to detail when working with, tracking, and safeguarding classified media.
