About The Position

The School-Based Lead Coach supports Chicago Public Schools in improving the instructional core through instructional development, change management, and school-level continuous improvement. The role plans and carries out strategies to strengthen instruction within an assigned school and improve outcomes for students. Under the direction of the Office of Teaching and Learning, the Office of Network Support, and the school-based principal, the Lead Coach implements a strategic action plan and continuous improvement strategies grounded in the CPS Framework for Teaching. The work involves classroom teachers, school-based Instructional Leadership Teams, school administrators, and professional development providers. The Lead Coach provides differentiated instructional support, including classroom modeling, collaborative planning, professional learning, coaching, and school-wide implementation of district instructional priorities. The role also leads teacher teams and serves on the school’s Instructional Leadership Team and CIWP Team. In collaboration with school and district staff, the Lead Coach develops and implements data-informed strategies related to curriculum, professional development, teacher support, student progress monitoring, and intervention plans. The role builds the leadership capacity of Teacher Leaders so they can lead teams and coach others in subsequent years.

Responsibilities

Implement a strategic action plan and continuous improvement strategies grounded in the CPS Framework for Teaching to support student outcomes.
Build classroom teachers’ and school administrators’ capacity to deliver district instructional core priorities.
Work directly with teachers in classrooms to model effective, research-based instructional practices.
Collaborate with grade-level teams on data-informed instructional planning.
Provide professional learning and coaching to staff as needed.
Work with school-based leadership teams to implement district priorities throughout the school.
Lead teacher teams in enacting the instructional core, including facilitating grade-level meetings, providing lesson-plan feedback, analyzing data or student work, and leading instructional core walks.
Serve on the school-based Instructional Leadership Team and CIWP Team.
Consult and collaborate with principals, assistant principals, Instructional Leadership Team members, and district staff to develop data-informed strategies and support CIWP development and implementation.
Contribute to curriculum development, professional development plans, direct teacher support, student-outcome progress monitoring, and student intervention plans.
Build Teacher Leaders’ leadership capacity through coaching and learning focused on leading teams and coaching others.
Support Teacher Leaders using competencies and toolkits that may include meta-coaching, model-coaching, co-data-team facilitation, and co-adult-learning facilitation.
